The Sandbar Grill

Get Marooned at The Sandbar Grill!

The Sandbar Grill offers two options for outdoor living!  Sit on the sidewalk, enjoy a delicious Strawberry Daiquiri, and watch Grand Bend go by.  Or sit outdoors on their patio, behind the restaurant on the old roller rink.   The outside patio is covered in sand, with kids’ beach buckets filled with pansies.  And yes, the big tree is still there, shading the patio.  For non-Grand Benders, that tree is famous from back in the 1950s and 60s.  The tree stood in the corner of the roller rink, and a bench was built around it where you could sit to put on your skates.  The terrazzo floor came right up to the bench so you could skate away!

The Sandbar Grill, located on the busy corner of Grand Bend’s Main Street at Queens Ave., offers an interesting menu of food and drink.  We were welcomed warmly by  owners Ed and Sarah, experienced restauranteurs who have operated other grills and pubs here in Ontario and in Florida.

With the beachy décor and a bright establishment, The Sandbar proves to be a popular spot.  Bright lime greens and cool blue hues make you feel like you’re in a beach house, with seashells and sand buckets for accents.  The lights over each table are unique nautical ropes with the light bulb intertwined.Sandbar Grill

The Sandbar has a great menu of fun summer food.  For an appetizer, I loved the Coconut Shrimp, served with a spicy Thai sauce ($15).  Also a popular appetizer is the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl ($11).   In the Sandwich section, I had the Steak Flatbread.  It was mouth-watering, with caramelized onions, white cheddar and house made horseradish Aioli ($15).  They have an excellent selection of juicy burgers, something for every taste bud, all in the $14 to $16 range, with fries or salad.

Whether you want a quick lunch before the matinee, or a summer-themed dinner before an evening at Huron Country Playhouse, check out the new Sandbar Grill for casual dining at 23 Main Street, Grand Bend. Call 519-238-5402.
