Denny’s Drive-In

Written on June 17th, 2017

Your car becomes a time travel machine, when you take it to Denny’s Drive-In at 86 Ontario St. S., (Highway 21) in Grand Bend.  Pull into the parking lot and suddenly you’re at a 1950’s drive-in restaurant, complete with fries, hot dogs and milkshakes.

Owner Val Boland has re-created the good old days at her Drive-In – In fact, you could say she’s created Happy Days.  This iconic Drive-In has been around since 1988, but now it has that 50s look.

In keeping with the 50s scene, Val has Elvis trivia posted around the Drive-In.  Did you know that Elvis could eat eight cheeseburgers and three milkshakes in one sitting?  For that reason, Denny’s offers the Tuesday “Elvis Special” – Cheeseburger, Denny’s famous fresh-cut French Fries, and a Milkshake – that’s All Shook Up!

Tuesday nights will take on a historical look when Denny’s welcomes Classic Cars.  Drive your Hot Rod to Denny’s where you will be met with servers in poodle skirts, who will act as car hops, bringing your tray to your car window.

On three special Classic Car Tuesdays, Elvis himself will be in the building – well, to be honest, it will be singer Michael Vanheval performing as Elvis on Denny’s patio.  Vanhevel, a popular entertainer who grew up in Grand Bend, has just released a CD of all Elvis music and will be on hand July 18, August 8 and August 29.   You can take “The Elvis Challenge” by matching Elvis’ pose on their big poster.

Denny’s Drive-In is also the proud sponsor of All Shook Up, a musical on stage at Huron Country Playhouse in Grand Bend, June 28 to July 16.  All Shook Up follows a storyline similar to Shakespeare’s comedy Twelfth Night, but features the music of Elvis.

In addition, Denny’s is sponsoring one of the Wednesday Night Familiar Favourite Concerts on the Beach in Grand Bend:  On August 16, Denny’s presents Second Wind, the popular band made of up Lambton Shores talent, playing all the favourites from the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

Val and her all-female staff of 14 welcome you to Denny’s Drive-In where you can find the tastiest foot longs complete with fried onions, the best juicy burgers and delicious fries.  Watch for the daily specials.  And if you bring along your furry, four-legged family member, they also supply doggy treats and water.
